Alberta Government Announces Temporary Suspension of AOS

On February 15, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) temporarily paused the Alberta Opportunity Stream application intake until further notice. They will continue evaluating applications submitted before the suspension but will not accept draft applications or those with outstanding final fee payments submitted after the suspension.

The suspension aims to address current backlogs and labor shortages in high-demand sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality. Updates on the resumption of stream applications will be provided on the AAIP website once the suspension is lifted.

In the future, Alberta may target specific occupational groups more for immigration selection, suggesting that individuals considering the AOS may need to reconsider their immigration plans.
