According to the announcement made by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on September 29, 2023, a change will take effect from October 1st for Express Entry permanent residency applicants. Starting from October 1st, applicants will no longer need to submit their medical examinations together with their application! Instead, medical examinations will only be required if requested by IRCC.
This announcement is expected to exempt many applicants from the costly and burdensome requirement of undergoing medical examinations. This change in the immigration process simplifies the process and reduces costs for applicants, making it a highly favorable change.
Additionally, for those who underwent a medical examination within the last 5 years as of the announcement made on October 12, 2022, please note that the exemption from medical examinations for permanent residency and visa applications in Canada will remain in effect until October 6, 2024.
This exemption only applies to foreign nationals who have
✅ a new or pending application for permanent or temporary residence or a permanent resident visa, made from within Canada
✅ completed an immigration medical exam within the last 5 years and posed no risk to public health or safety, or reported to public health authorities for monitoring, as required
