The fact that the applicant received the PR Portal means that only the final confirmation process of Eligibility and Background assessment remained. It was a situation where they could immediately become permanent residents once the provincial approval was confirmed again. At this point, the applicant got married and reported it to the federal government by updating the status to [married] and adding the spouse as a family member. The federal assessment is not simply about recording the addition of the spouse as a family member but also involves restarting the federal PR assessment for the spouse to verify not only their background but also if they are indeed the legally married spouse.
With these additional procedures, the processing time of the case has somewhat increased. It took a total of 38.5 months from PR document submission to receiving the PR Portal Letter.
