Every November 1st, IRCC announces the immigration plan for the following year. Today, they have announced the three-year plan for 2024-2026. The 2024 plan remains unchanged from the three-year plan announced in 2023. The newly added 2026 plan is set with the same goals as 2025. Therefore, it can be expected that there will continue to be a sustained increase in immigration over the next three years.
Looking at the continuous trend of the next three years plan, there is an increasing proportion of immigration in the Economic Category. As the Economic category includes common immigration content such as EE (Express Entry) and PNP (Provincial Nominee Program), this can also be anticipated as a positive direction.
Compared to this year’s target of 465,000 immigrants, next year’s plan aims to accept an additional 20,000 immigrants, and in 2025, there are plans to accept 15,000 more immigrants compared to 2024.
Therefore, considering it in the longer term until 2025, it might be reasonable to have a slightly relaxed view on immigration until 2026. In particular, the trend of economic immigration, specifically employment and study-related immigration, is expected to be even more pronounced.
Another notable point in this announcement is the emphasis on immigration for French speakers. Apart from the overall immigration count, it is stated that in 2024, 23,100 French speakers will be given the opportunity for permanent residency, explicitly excluding immigration from Quebec. In 2025, 31,500, and in 2026, 36,000 French speakers are expected to be given additional opportunities separately from general immigration, providing additional benefits to candidates proficient in French.
However, one thing to be mindful of is the government’s plan to crack down on illegal immigration agencies and illegal study abroad agencies, as constantly reported in the news. Therefore, when choosing education consulting agencies or immigration consulting companies, please be more cautious.
