Canada Immigration News: New selection categories for EE Candidates

Hello, it’s the one and only consulting, GS Consulting! ❣️

Today, the Minister of Immigration in Canada, Sean Fraser, announced has announced the launch of category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates.

The category-based selection draws prioritize applicants who have work experience in specific occupations or possess specific language abilities.

This year, the category-based selection draws will be conducted by prioritizing applicants,

who have a strong French language proficiency

or work experience in the following fields:

  • healthcare
  • science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
  • transport
  • agriculture and agri-food

Although the announced occupations are in effect this year, these categories seem to be determined annually by the Parliament in response to Canada’s labor shortage situation. Therefore, they may change each year.

Additionally, the original immigration programs will also continue alongside the new category-based selection.
