Last week, on May 26th, May 26th 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, made an announcement about improvements to strengthen family class immigration in Canada.
The new measures include:
- Faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing times for spousal applicants
- New and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants
- A new open work permit for spousal and family class applicants
- Open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expiring between August 1st and the end of 2023
Among these measures, the most notable one is the extension of up to 18 months for open work permit (OWP) holders whose permits are set to expire between August 1st and December 31st, 2023.❣️👀
Detailed application procedures will be updated in the future!
Let’s take a look at the eligible groups and application dates.
👨👩👧👦 Eligible groups:
- Spouses and dependents of work permit holders
- Spouses and dependents of international students
- Spouses and dependents of permanent residency applicants
📩Application Period: Available for application starting from June 7th, 2023 (Application is free!)
The government aims to process all the announced measures within 30 days.
With these new measures, it is expected that many residents and their families living in Canada will be able to live together and achieve stable settlement. ⚡⚡
